In 2014 a group of eight surface design artists came together to learn all aspects of mounting an exhibition. The group, SD8 a collective of eight women artists based in Minnesota are Karie Amstuz, Anna Carlson, Diana Eicher, Kristin Hoelscher-Schacker, Kristi Kuder, Deb Maertens, Ann Ribbens and myself.
Our time together resulted in Recollection: Shadow to Matter. The exhibition’s first mounting was at Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2015. We were asked by White Bear Center for the Arts to re-mount the exhibition in 2016. Gathering information along the way we created a step by step guide for other surface design artists to create their own exhibitions, three of our members led a SDA conference seminar and the article, The Power of Local Groups:SD8 which was published in the 2017 Summer edition of Surface Design Journal.
